Nationwide, 1 in 4 students drop out of high schools today. In major urban areas, the rate has reached 50%. In fact, there are fewer schools to drop out of as high schools all over the nation close due to budget cuts. Homicide is the leading cause of death for Black males between 15 & 24. Communication between parents and their adolescents collapses as societal pressures mount. Many families disintegrate altogether leaving between 1 to 3 million runaway & homeless kids living on the streets. Between 24-50% of emancipated foster care youth are homeless within the first 18 months of emancipation.

As a result, many young people, and young, Black men, in particular, have few mature, Black, male role models with whom they can interact.

 Black Feather Forum  facilitates regular "Lunch & Learns" where mature Black men of various professions have regular, informal "round table discussions", at local restaurants, with younger Black men.  No topic is off limits.  Black Feather Forum provides a structure for non-forced bonding, guidance and mentorship where BOTH sides grow.
